Cultivated Power, Inc. was created in 2014 to provide natural gas cogeneration (CoGen) with a focus on the Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) industry. This industry which includes commercial crops as well as cannabis, requires an inordinate amount of electricity to both grow and process the product.
Our experience with CoGen (sometimes known as Combined Heat and Power {CHP}) began in the Oil and Gas industry with both land-based and off-shore applications. These included both reciprocating engine and turbine-based solutions to generate power as well as significant heat. This thermal resource was utilized to provide heating, cooling and water treatment (distillation). Later CHP implementations were based on Solar Thermal technology which develop high temperatures utilizing large-format focused mirrors. This heat and its storage allowed the generation of electricity as well as similar thermal activities plus heat related industrial processes.
Our work with utilities also involved state of the art emission controls and treatments. We developed an emission treatment chemical facility which generated a large amount of waste heat. We captured this resource and used it to power an on-site 25 MW steam driven electrical power plant. This energy both powered the facility as well as selling the majority of the output to the local utility.
This combination of skill sets came together in the formation of Cultivated Power. Proven natural gas driven power equipment was paired with emission control equipment to provide ultra-efficient and environmentally friendly power plants. These holistic power plants can be up to 90% efficient while both reducing and capturing the inherent greenhouse gases. We incorporate renewable generation technologies where appropriate to enhance the performance of an operation. The engines we design into our facilities are also capable of operating on hydrogen, when commercially available, which would reduce or eliminate their greenhouse emissions.
Our team skill set also includes cultivation, cooling, dehumidification, lighting, controls, automation, and grounds maintenance for both horticultural and other applications. This allows us to model multiple potential conditions into a cohesive power and environmental control system strategy.
We can provide assistance with utility requirements and permitting documentation. Additionally, our strong background in corporate finance allows us to offer financing packages (Traditional, PACE, Leasing, non-Traditional) as well as obtain rebates and other clean energy related incentives and tax rebates such as those available through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
So, while there are other companies that can offer generating capabilities, none have the broad experience necessary to be successful in this complex industry.
Grow with 6 MW of Tri-Gen. The plant provides power, heat, four-pipe dehumidification and CO2.
